Internet breadcrumbs

Do you ever have those days on the internet, where you feel a bit like Gretel (or Hansel, as the case maybe)? A trail of internet breadcrumbs leading you along a path to some gingerbread goodies (hopefully without a wicked witch at the end!).

My latest breadcrumb trail led me here (not an unusual starting point these days), but that led to here and here which lead me to here and here.

At the end of my trail, inspired by all those breadcrumbs stops along the way, I made this:

What can I say about making this album, it looks great (I think) but blanket stitching transparencies is a bitch! One of those projects that seems like a genius idea when you start it, but begins to lose its appeal after you've stabbed yourself with the embroidery needle for the umpteenth time! (although given my track record with sharp objects and crafting, it's hardly surprising really :P)

Right, off to do some actual work in work :P

Scrap me and Shoot me

Take one rainy afternoon in March, add one child at school and one napping, a camera, a tripod and a Self-portrait photography challenge, and this is what you get:

That is to say, this is what I got!

This is one of the only photos of me that I’ve actually liked in recent years (as you can probably tell, seeing as it’s my profile photo for EVERYTHING! LOL). Thus proving the old adage – if you want a job doing well, do it yourself? ;)

So, that’s the shoot me part….. this would be the scrap me part:





This is a bit of a cheat because I’ve combined this week’s Pencillines sketch (#55) with the BW challenge set by Katie this week.

The photo is printed onto white cotton fabric* and the edges frayed up. The patterned papers (designers range from Dovecraft) have been sanded to tone down the black and the negative title was made using mask letters (in the Impact font) and white acrylic. Some papermania swirls stamps and Queen and Co flowers later and it’s all done and dusted.

*ETA - as a couple of you have asked in comments how I did this, here's how:

Take a piece of white cotton fabric cut to A4 size. Spray the back with spray mount adhesive, leave for one minute (or whatever time frame it says to get a temporary bond) and then stick to a piece of A4 card stock, making sure it's smooth and there are no bubbles. Load into the print. Select your photo to print and from the list of paper types in the settings choose a suitable option for thick card (my printer (HP photosmart 7000 series) has an option for HP fabric transfer paper so I used that). Then just print as usual.


The LO is for my A-Z BoM (do you remember I was going that??? Because I’d forgotten!). So far I’ve only done LOs for “T” and “C” (and now “S”) so I’d better get my finger out and get the rest of the alphabet done!

I also have a mini album on the go at the moment (a transparency one) but I got fed up stitching the pages together so shelved it for last night while I did this one. Hopefully I can get it finished tonight (when I work out how I’m going to stick chipboard to transparency without it sliding all over the shop….. might be time to drag out the diamond glaze me thinks). More on that tomorrow (hopefully). This total lack of anything good on the telly is great… loads more scrapping time. I can almost taste that yule log! ;)

A Cookie Refurb

It's been a while, so I thought it was about time I had a cookie refurbishment.

It's like the furniture rearranging thing at home. Every so often I get a bee in my bonnet and have to have a "flit round" (as my Mother would say).

Hope you like the new look. Very soothing I thought, all lilac and aquary.

A Mini Roll....

No, not one of those chocolately things with the cream filling (although they're rather nice).... a scrapbooking mini roll I mean. Well, if you count two LOs and a planner in a fortnight a roll, which I will given my recent level of scrapping activity (indulge me, okay?).

I haven't done a Pencilline's sketch layout for ages, but I really liked the look of this one by Amy Coose (sketch #54) and it gave me a chance to scrap these great photos of Ewan and his many cheeky expressions, and to use the rest of the Basic Grey "Color Me Silly" kit that I've had for ages (since my first crop actually!) and haven't managed to use except for my "Go" binder a while back.

'Tis here anyway. Hopefully my mini roll will become a full on yule log before the month is out (it's almost Christmas after all ;)). Which reminds me, I used my Christmas planner today, as an actually planner (not a coaster ;)). Go me!

Best Friends (Actually!)

I've been meaning to scrap this great photo of Grace and her BW buddy Emily for a couple of weeks. Which was a great plan. Unfortunately, I've been seriously lacking in the inspiration stakes lately when it comes to layouts. So, I did what any scrapbooker would do in a situation like this. I went trawling the internet for some online inspiration! Which I found, in the form of Annie Hafermann's "Keep It Real" layout.

One scraplift and some purple glittery stuff later and this is the result:

The journalling come from a conversation that took place at Ewan's Christening. It went like this:

Auntie Jaqs: "Are you having fun playing with your friend, Gracie?"

Grace: "YEAH!"

Emily: "I think you'll find we're BEST FRIENDS. Actually!"

For once Grace and Emily managed to last an entire day without falling out over something... so definitley a LO worthy moment.

Thank's to Annie for the inspiration. The photo would no doubt be sitting in my desk unscrapped for weeks otherwise!

Santa Claus is coming to town....

Okay, not for a little while, but there's only 75 more days to go you know, but who's counting? Well, these guys are for one.

I've been on a bit of a home organisation trip recently (which probably explains the total lack of blogging action! Lets not talk about the promise to blog daily in September shall we?) which was inspired by a fellow BW buddy. I'm revising my Flylady routines and have been putting together a Household note book (inspired by the Organizedhome.com website).

The household notebook is a work in progress (but I do have NO laundry waiting to be done, and a clean living room, kitchen and bathroom, along with a 4 week menu plan) but as part of this organisation trip I made a promise to myself that I would be organised for this Christmas and not be my usually unorganised panic shopping self.

So, that led me from organizedhome to organizedchristmas where I was inspired by this lovely offering on the Stampspaperscissors blog and decided to make a Christmas Planner/notebook to house all those Christmas planning moments (and the all important present list ;)).

The planner has a notepad for shopping lists (going to be lots of those!), a spiral bound notebook for gift ideas (so I can write down those flashes of inspiration of what to buy everyone and not instantly forget them like I usually do), a handmade folded notebook for menu planning and recipes (for all those Christmas cookie and cupcake moments :)), a festive envelope to hold the gift receipts (just incase I need to return everything and so they don't get lost in the dank dark depths of my handbag) and an organiser with the Christmas countdown calender and some of the printable pages/forms from the organised Christmas site.
